US stations 15,000 troops in Kuwait

The United States is not at war with Iran yet, but just in case, the Pentagon says they want to be prepared. To do so, the Department of Defense has dispatched 15,000 troops to the neighboring nation of Kuwait.
Gen. James Mattis, the Marine Corps head that rules over the US Central Command, won approval late last year from the White House to deploy the massive surge to the tiny West Asian country Kuwait, which is separated from Iran by only a narrow span of the Persian Gulf.
The latest deployment, which was ushered in without much presentation to the public, adds a huge number of troops aligned with America’s arsenal that are now surrounding Iran on literally every front. In late 2011, the US equipped neighboring United Arab Emirates with advanced weaponry created to disrupt underground nuclear operations. In adjacent Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iraq, American military presence has long been all but enormous.
While the US has not placed any boots on the ground in Iran, an unauthorized surveillance mission of a US steal drone in December prompted Tehran to become enraged at Washington. US officials insist that Iran is on the verge of a nuclear weaponry program, despite lacking sufficient evidence or confirmation. During the drone mission, Iran authorities intercepted the craft and forced it into a safe landing. Tensions have only worsened between the two nations in the month since, but Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said that stealth missions into Iran will continue “absolutely,” despite ongoing opposition from overseas.
In calling for the latest surge to Kuwait, Gen. Mattis said the deployment was necessary to keep Iran in check and keep America prepared for any other threats in the area. It comes only weeks after the last American troops vacated nearby Iraq, where the US still in actuality has an advance presence — the American embassy in Baghdad employs thousands of armed military contractors.
The move to build up military presence in Kuwait comes at a time when the foreign government is at odds to a degree with a US. While protesters in America this week have demonstrated against the ten year anniversary of the opening of the Guantanamo Bay prison facility, the Kuwait government has increased efforts to have two of their own men transferred out of Gitmo and sent back home. Both Fawzi al-Odah and Fayiz al-Kandari have been detained at Guantanamo since 2002, although only one of the two Kuwaiti citizens has ever been charged.

Bomb damages US consulate in Mexico; no injuries
MEXICO CITY, Mexico (AP) --
An attacker threw an explosive device over the wall around the U.S. consulate in the border city of Nuevo Laredo, breaking windows and startling employees inside but causing no injuries, the U.S. Embassy said Saturday.
The attack, which took place about 11:30 p.m. Friday, is under investigation, embassy spokesman Claude Young said.
Young said the consulate and the consular agency in the border town of Piedras Negras would be closed Monday pending a review of security measures.
Mexican federal prosecutors in the capital said they were reviewing evidence from the scene, including video feeds from security cameras at the consulate.
Nuevo Laredo, across the Rio Grande River from Laredo, Texas, and other cities have seen increased violence in recent weeks as powerful Mexican drug cartels battle over control of lucrative trafficking along the border.
U.S. State Department employees in the area had not been victimized until last month. That's when gunmen separately chased down and killed an American woman who worked at the U.S. consulate in Ciudad Juarez along with her husband in their SUV and another man married to a Mexican consulate worker in a similar vehicle. All three had been at the same party.
In 2008, two men fired shots and threw a grenade — which didn't explode — at the U.S. consulate in Monterrey. Nobody was hurt in that assault, but the gate was left pockmarked. Five days later gunmen again fired at that consulate. Related stories: Explosive device damages US consulate in Nuevo Laredo BBC News

DON'T BE FOOLED!!!!
Don't be Fooled....The Government Takeover of Health Care –
On October 29, 2009, Speaker Nancy Pelosi and congressional Democrats released their latest version of a government takeover of America's health care system. Despite the claim that H.R. 3962 incorporates "moderate" Democrat ideas, don't be fooled. A closer look reveals that the Democrats are making dubious claims in a number of areas:
Fisical Restraint
Don't be fooled… the Democrats claim that the cost of their government takeover is $894 billion.
In reality… according to CBO, the "cost of coverage" (not including various other provisions) is $1.055 trillion. The total cost of the bill (as yet to be calculated by CBO) is closer to $1.5 trillion, including the cost to states for mandated Medicaid expansion ($34 billion), the "Doc Fix" ($245 billion), and authorized discretionary spending for grants, public programs, changes and funding for a variety of agencies that would be responsible for implementing H.R. 3962.
Medical Liability Reform
Don't be fooled… the Democrats claim they have fulfilled President Obama's wish to include medical liability reforms by providing grants to states to implement "alternate" reforms.
In reality… the bill protects trial lawyers. The bill gives money (authorized at "such sums") to states that enact "certificate of merit" (a document signed by a medical professional that says there is a probability that the standard of care was violated) and / or a certificate of "early offer" (an early, confidential apology) laws, as long as the states
don't limit attorneys' fees or
impose caps on damages.
Purchasing Across State Lines
Don't be fooled… the Democrats claim that their bill allows for the sale of health insurance across state lines.
In reality… this bill would only provide for regional compacts that states can enter into if their state legislatures approve it. However, these compacts can only exist after the federal government has established stringent national rules for minimum benefits and what constitutes a "qualified plan," virtually eliminated the individual market, and created a national exchange, causing many to wonder how this would even be possible.
Health Insurance Cooperatives
Don't be fooled… the Democrats claim that they will establish a Consumer Operated and Oriented Plan Program (CO-OP) that will increase competition and choice.
In reality… the Commissioner shall establish a "CO-OP Program" to help organizations and fund ($5 billion for FY 2010-2014) the creation of even more not-for-profit insurance companies alongside the government-run plan. The CO-OPs would only have to pay back the loans or grants plus interest if they violate the terms of the program. Otherwise they, like the government-run insurance plan, are financed on the back of the taxpayer with no prohibition on the CO-OP from receiving a bail-out if it fails.
Anti-Trust Repeal
Don't be fooled… the Democrats claim they are the repealing anti-trust exemption, which they claim currently allows for price fixing or carving up markets by health insurers or malpractice carriers.
In reality… the bill partially repeals the insurance anti-trust exemption for only health insurance and medical malpractice insurance to prohibit "price fixing, market allocation, or monopolization," which is already regulated by states. This appears to be a political move to intimidate insurers. The repeal may in fact have a negative effect on competition by prohibiting smaller insurance businesses from gaining access to enough information to accurately trend, forecast, or rate and by potentially keeping new entrants to the market from being able to accurately rate or price.

China, India Cancel Copenhagen
China, India Cancel Out Copenhagen
Climate Change: With less than two months to go before the big Copenhagen Conference on global warming, two major nations have said "no thanks" to the no-growth agenda. For that reason alone, so should we.
Following a deal signed late Thursday between China and India, anything we might agree to do in Copenhagen is likely moot anyway. The two mega-nations — which together account for nearly a third of the world's population — said they won't go along with a new climate treaty being drafted in Copenhagen to replace the Kyoto Protocol that expires in 2012.
They're basically saying no to anything that forces them to impose mandatory limits on their output of greenhouse gas emissions. Other developing nations, including Mexico, Brazil and South Africa, will likely reject any proposals as well.
The deal was already in trouble. Three weeks ago, the Group of 77 developing nations met in Thailand to discuss what they wanted to do about global warming. Their answer: nothing.
William Hawkins, writing in the American Thinker, quotes a piece in China's Science Times journal that sums up how China — and other developing nations — feel:
"Why do the developed countries put an arguable scientific problem on the international negotiations table?" the article's author, Wang Jin, asks. "The real intention is not for the global temperature increase, but for the restriction of the economic development of the developing countries."
They see clearly what the rest of us seem to miss — that, for all its bad science, the Copenhagen Conference is about the world's Lilliputians tying down its Gullivers, not about global warming at all.
So, thanks to China and India, Copenhagen is dead — just as Kyoto was when it was signed in 1992, though no one knew it at the time. Without them, no global treaty on climate change will be workable.
The two nations are not only the world's most populous (with, together, more than 2 billion people), they are also the fastest-growing major countries. China is now the world's No. 1 emitter of greenhouse gases, and India is catching up fast.
Even with their participation, Copenhagen should have been a non-starter for the U.S. Indeed, the main reason for the greenhouse gas deal, all but admitted to by its major participants, is to cripple the U.S. economy — the most successful economy in the world.
True enough, as green critics keep saying, we produce nearly 20% of the world's CO2 and other greenhouse gases with just 5% of the world's population. But our GDP of roughly $14 trillion is nearly 25% of the world's total — in line with our gas output.
We provide jobs and consumption not just for Americans, but for tens of millions of people overseas whose livelihoods depend on satisfying the massive American market.
In case you're still worried about warming, stop. Since 1998, the data show global temperatures have fallen. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change says this can't be happening. None of the IPCC's models shows a possibility of rising CO2 output and declining temperature.
But even Paul Hudson, the pro-warming-theory BBC climate correspondent, recently had to admit: "For the last 11 years, we have not observed any increase in global temperatures. And our climate models did not forecast it, even though man-made carbon dioxide, the gas thought to be responsible for warming our planet, has continued to rise."
Yet, the IPCC estimates that "remediation" of the warming trend will cost about 1.7% of world GDP. In the U.S., that's about $240 billion a year. For the entire world, it's about $1 trillion a year — or $71 trillion over the next 70 years or so.
Proposals to slash CO2 won't work anyway. Department of Energy estimates indicate that 97% of all CO2 emissions would continue even if humans didn't exist.
Even so, climatologist Chip Knappenberger estimates that laws like the recent Waxman-Markey bill would, if fully enacted, reduce future warming by just 0.2 degrees Celsius by 2100 — not enough even to measure accurately.
Can the world really afford to give up $71 trillion in the coming decades to solve a phantom problem?
Given the shoddiness of the science behind warming claims and the refusal of the biggest CO2 emitters to play along with the climate change sham, it would be economically ruinous for the U.S. to do anything other than wish the rest of the world a nice day, and go about our business. http://IBDaily.com
