What
are black leaders, the NAACP and others thinking about in supporting or
standing quiet on legislation which gives those who are not citizen’s rights on
par with those who are? Promoting those non-citizens between 18-40, who were
brought to this nation as a child through no action or fault of their own, as
deserving of preference to stay in this nation does continue to relegate to the
back of the bus two groups of citizens who were not immigrants to this nation
-- Native Americans were here to begin with meaning America could not have been
discovered by Christopher Columbus and African Americans were forcibly brought
to this country as slaves for cheap labor.
I
appreciate that the job of the President is to represent all of the people;
however, the often benign neglect shown to concerns of Native Americans and
Black Americans in the actions of a black man, Barack Hussein Obama is sad. The
stimulus packages of more than a trillion dollars ignored the plight of many of
our communities as well as those of urban America. The lack of an appointment
of a black female to the Supreme Court says that these appointments remain
highly political and that for a population which gave Mr. Obama 96%+ of their
vote, there would be no quid pro quo as has been done for liberals, Hispanics
and gays. The closing of the regional offices the Minority Business Development
Agency of the Small Business Administration which deals substantially with
minority affairs should be of concern to these struggling communities in need
of economic assistance. As our communities are squandered in some measure by
the dissolution of traditional marriages with over half of our children born
out of wedlock, the Obama Administration supports Gay Marriage. Giving
preference or squatter’s rights to those 800,000 illegal immigrants who are not
citizens, puts them in direct competition with many unemployed people and
minority youth for what few limited jobs are available. It also allows those
here illegally in their child bearing years, the right to have children in this
country who will become citizens.
Though
highly critical of George W. Bush, Guantanamo, troop withdrawals from Iraq, the
capture of Bin Laden and other things, the Obama Administration takes credit
for any positives here for all efforts begun on Bush’s watch. Even the Obama
Administration’s modifications proposed to The No Child Left Behind Act are
a ‘black’ wash of the best of Bush’s ideas. That the black population largely
allows Mr. Obama a pass without asking what are his policies doing to this
nation and the opportunities for citizens of color, says we aren’t putting
Nation and Citizens First. What say ye of the Congressional Black Caucus who
jumped on the Trayvon Martin case before the evidence was tried, but won’t
publicly get in on these bits of data which impact us all?
Unfortunately
the picture being painted is one of continued pandering for votes and neglect
by democrats and republicans of minorities unless Spanish speaking. The
attempts to administratively elevate gay concerns to that of a civil right
often do an injustice to the cause of civil rights for people of color. The
election of a black man as president of the United States of America was supposed
to prove that the American Dream was within the reach of all. We now know
better. We have waited our turn and are again drawing the short straw which
means our interests are again being sacrificed on the altar of political
expediency.
