ARIZONA GOP AUDIT FINIS...

Cross Post: Yellow Sheet Report
“The only issue is that every dime raised at the dinner will go to pay the tremendous fine when the FEC is done with their audit.”

The Arizona Republican Party notified the FEC on April 25 that it had a new treasure. In an amendment to the party’s statement of organization, Andrew Stevens was listed as the party’s new treasurer, replacing Timothy Lee, who had served as the party’s treasurer since 2007. Party spokesman Shane Wikfors told our  Reporter that Stevens, who was elected assistant treasurer at the party’s annual meeting in January, automatically replaced Lee as treasurer under the bylaws. He said that Lee resigned for health reasons in either late March or early April, but was not sure exactly when Lee stepped down from his post. Multiple Republicans wondered if Lee’s departure was connected to the recent FEC audit of the party’s finances, but the  party spokesman said it was unrelated. As for the audit, he said the FEC spent about two weeks in Phoenix examining the party’s records for 2009 and 2010. “They didn’t ask for anything glaring. They seemed to get everything they wanted,” he said, adding that the party expects the FEC’s summary report to be finished soon. One Republican consultant told our reporter that he was contacted six weeks ago by FEC officials seeking invoices related to expenses incurred by the party – and that several other GOP consultants have been contacted as well. That source predicted that the inquiry will spell trouble for the party. Source
