As Congress Debates Debt, GOP Leader Calls on Kirkpatrick do refund Tainted Money she paid Political Appointees
Payson, AZ -- According to the non-partisan LegisStorm, a group that tracks Congressional spending, and the Arizona Republic, former Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick made massive payments to political appointees with government funds during her final 48 hours in office.
All told Kirkpatrick scheme spent $105,294.23 over a 48 hour time period, that’s nearly $2200 per hour.
“If Kirkpatrick is willing to spend $2200 per hour on her political cronies it’s no wonder the people of rural Arizona voted her out of office. With her wasteful spending she made a choice: political payback instead of protecting rural Arizona. It’s wrong, and that’s why I am calling on Ann to finally do the right thing and help our nation by repaying this tainted money. As our nation gets serious about spending so should our leaders and if Kirkpatrick thinks paying off cronies is the right thing to do I am confident the voters will decide again that she doesn’t represent Arizona values,” said Tom Morrissey, Chairman of the Arizona Republican Party.
Today, in a strongly worded letter Chairman Morrissey urged Kirkpatrick to immediately refund the money she wasted. A copy of the letter is below.

Len Munsil Wasn't Criminally Investigated by Sheriff Arpaio's Office After All; Statement Attributed to Deputy was Incorrect
Mon., Jul. 25 2011 at 5:17 PM
Aaargh!
The Maricopa County Sheriff Office took two months to produce a report about a stated criminal investigation into former gubernatorial candidate Len Munsil -- and it turns out Munsil was the victim, not the alleged perpetrator.
We didn't mean to mislead you. The 1,022-page report on Sheriff Joe Arpaio's office released in May states specifically that: "Allegations against Munsil included illegal transfer of funds, lying in political campaigns, and telemarketing issues."
The so-called Munnell Memo report says that the info came from MCSO Sergeant Brandon Luth, one of the former supervisors of Arpaio's disgraced Maricopa Anti-Corruption Enforcement Team.
On the same we published the above-linked blog post, we put in a records request for documents related to these supposed Munsil allegations. We also made repeated calls to Munsil, none of which were returned. http://blogs.phoenixnewtimes.com/valleyfever/2011/07/len_munsil_wasnt_criminally_in.php

Phoenix mayoral candidate Brennan touting outsider status

Mayoral hopeful says her history gives her skills to lead Phoenix

Anna Brennan has little traditional political experience.
But she says her background as an Italian immigrant, small-business owner and resident who's fought a zoning case has taught her what she needs to know about city government.
Brennan, 52, spent six years fighting a zoning case that threatened her Biltmore home. In the end, she lost the case, but said she learned how Phoenix works. She pored over city codes and attended planning meetings in an attempt to keep a maintenance yard for a nearby golf course from landing behind her house.

NFIB Endorses Senate President Russell Pearce for Election—Again!

July 25, 2011 By NFIB/Arizona
Small-business association standing up for lawmaker who has stood up for its members
PHOENIX, Ariz., July 25, 2011 — In a less petty political world, no association should have to issue a news released endorsing a candidate for the state legislature in a July of an odd-numbered year, but in doing so today Arizona’s leading small-business group wanted to make an early, emphatic and unqualified endorsement of Senate President Russell Pearce for election, once again, to his 18th Legislative District seat.
“We’re making our endorsement of Russell Pearce early to register small business’ strong support for one of Arizona’s most pro-small business lawmakers as he faces a needless November 8th special election to represent a constituency who overwhelmingly voted for him nine months ago just as they have in five prior elections,” said Farrell Quinlan, Arizona state director for the National Federation of Independent Business. The formal endorsement of Pearce was made by the NFIB/Arizona SAFE Trust, the political action arm of the association. More information can be found on President Pearce’s website at www.russellpearce.com.

Council and City Management Fails Miserably...
Editor: Police Chief Alan Rodbell says "You’re not hearing about shootings in downtown Scottsdale, no knifings, no rape in downtown Scottsdale," (Scottsdale Republic, 20 July 11). We can all agree that’s a good thing. In fact, if we were having those criminal activities in downtown Scottsdale, the public outcry for changes in leadership would extend well beyond the Police Chief, and include demands for a new Mayor and Council. However, just because the downtown is not completely self-destructing, with shootings, knifings and rapes, is no reason to rejoice in the status quo.http://www.scottsdaleactivist.com/#Council
