Beware
of pundits, media analyst, some within both political parties and others who
have proven tone death in covering the Republican field of play as well as that
for the Democrats. Quickly candidates have fallen from 17 to one on
the Republican side with a Trump Campaign not so dissimilar to that of
Goldwater in terms of sentiment in the Republican Party.
Unlike Goldwater, Donald John Trump truly has heard “. . . America Singing” (reference Walt Whitman’s poem by that name). Unlike his detractors, the crowds seemingly are oblivious to what he says, who he insults and how he may come across as not politically correct—they are voting for Trump anyway, crossing party lines and aisles to get out the vote. Trump seems connected to that inner man frustrated and fed up with things as usual.. He gets in your face. He calls it as he sees it without caring what the powers may be may think. He reminds me of Muhammed Ali the boxer who took a stand against the war in Vietnam, paid the price and came out on top beloved by many as the greatest of all times.
Trump will beat Hilary Clinton in a presidential race and Bernie Sanders has helped his cause by pointing out her flaws politically and personally. Trump will likely try to keep his promises on immigration, aborting the affordable care legislation, penalizing manufacturers who take jobs out of this country and other issues which seem controversial. Trump understands that the art of the deal is about negotiating to get what you want. With a background in economics and business he has the skills to take the nation to a new level.
It will be the internal struggles which may prove most difficult for any incoming administration for the pervasiveness of drugs is ripping the nation apart and destroying our human capital. Having watched a sibling struggle with addiction, the fact that Donald Trump does not smoke or drink seems reflected in his children who are poised for success. Three wives may strike some as odd, but none are publicly complaining, all are beautiful which shows at some level his taste in women is good (though women are more than their looks) and his oldest daughter Ivanka is his closest advisor. With a nation suffering job droughts on so many fronts and with a work force not ready for the high tech world thrust to the future, this Trump challenge will need more than words. Foreign policy must have input by the military but Trump must beware, as Eisenhower warned, of going warp speed back into the Military Industrial Complex.
Republicans who would chose Clinton over Trump have lost it. They don’t perceive the very real rebellion on both sides of the aisle aimed not so much at the establishment than the status quo. No matter who is in office, it’s been the same old stuff with warmed over appeasement policies to keep things as they are but not help us soar. With a Donald John Trump as President, I guarantee that few things will remain the same. That may be a good thing.
