Response To Article:Recalled Senate President Russell Pearce lands county job-If he wants it

IS THIS CRONYISM? Response Below...

Maricopa County Treasurer Charles “Hos” Hoskins has offered former Arizona Senate President Russell Pearce the $85,000 a year job overseeing human resources, legislative outreach, budget and senior citizen outreach.
Why are we duplicating services within the County when there is already a HR department for shared services.

For the record, Russell Pearce has served and earned three government pensions:

Public Safety Retirement from work for the Sheriff's Office
Elected Official from his years in public office
State civil service from prior work ...

Is this now a fourth pension? I love Russell as a person, but this invites the question by those fed up with government - When do these guys go out and get real jobs like the rest of us?

I spent 22 years in active and reserve duty - mostly reserve - and had to work civilian jobs for decades and still am working hard to make ends meet for my retirement and maybe a bit for my kid's future college education.  Many other Arizonans face the same or worse challenge.  They don't get $70k a year jobs in government with pensions.

I am a 30-year experienced business corporate leader, formerly with a national publicly held company, who also retired as a senior Navy leader.  Many veterans with like experience would gladly apply for and take the job for $60k a year and find ways to save taxpayers more money.

I am guided by principles of government service in my family.  My grandfather retired from Federal service and my dad retired from Federal civil service in 1981 at a very modest pension based on being a Federal hospital and health care executive running 11 hospitals - all for less than $70k a year.  He said Federal service was serving others and was always mindful that, he, too, was a taxpayer.

Respectfully, as a Barry Goldwater conservative Republican, my thought to Hos is enough is enough.  It is not the best public policy management choice in how public money is spent - and if the position is needed to be filled, hire a veteran.  Thousands of qualified veterans are out of work - they have the highest unemployment rate in the U.S. today.
