Arizonans To Protest APS’ Shady Campaigning In Front Of Corporate Headquarters

Protests, New Documents, New Details About APS’ Attempted Acquisition Of Arizona Corporation Commission
(PHOENIX) On Tuesday July 29 at 10am Arizonans from across the state will join TUSK (Tell Utilities Solar Won’t be Killed) in a protest in front of the APS corporate headquarters at 5th Street and Van Buren. Citizens will be calling on APS to come clean about funding outside groups to attack pro-solar candidates, and to get its preferred candidates, Tom Forese and Doug Little, elected to the Arizona Corporation Commission. TUSK is also asking APS to come clean about spending money in races for the Arizona Legislature and the Arizona Secretary of State’s office.
So far, APS has dodged questions about its political spending despite repeated requests from the public. In 2013, they were ultimately revealed to have lied about millions in political spending.
The outcome of these elections greatly impacts utility monopoly APS as the company sought solar taxes through the Corporation Commission and supports an Arizona Department of Revenue imposed property tax on leased rooftop solar systems. The Commission also decides on rate increases requested by APS.
In fact, the Arizona Department of Revenue has declined to provide details of a retirement party recently held for its deputy director. The party was held at the Arizona Center and attended by APS employees.
The rally will be emceed by KFYI radio host Jim Sharpe. It will also feature Mr. APS and his faithful lap dog, both of which are featured in a new television commercial that started airing statewide on Sunday. Here is a link.

T.U.S.K. believes that rooftop solar is similar to a charter school—it provides a competitive alternative to the monopoly. Monopoly utilities aren’t known for reducing costs or for driving business innovation, but the solar industry is. Solar companies have a track record of aggressive cost reduction. The more people use rooftop solar, the less power they need to buy from the utilities. Energy independence means smaller profits for the utilities, so they are doing everything they can to stop the spread of independent solar.
Paid for by TUSK (Tell Utilities Solar won’t be Killed.) Not authorized by any candidate or candidate’s campaign committee.
