Senator
Chuck Schumer (D-NY) Claimed He Did Not Know Obama's Position On Jerusalem.
CBS's NORAH O'DONNELL: "At Democratic conventions, and Republican
conventions, you have party platforms. For the first time you have removed that
Jerusalem should be Israel's capital. Mitt Romney calls that shameful. Why do
that?" SENATOR CHUCK SCHUMER: "Oh well, look, everyone knows the vast,
overwhelming majority of Democrats, Democrats have always been for Jerusalem
being the unified capital of Israel - I'm one of the leading Democrats on Middle
East policy, that's been my position for a long time. So this is my tempest in a
teapot. The overwhelming Democratic position is just that." CBS's CHARIE ROSE:
"What's the president's position?" O'DONNELL: "Not the party platform though?"
ROSE: "What's the president's position?" SCHUMER: "It's not in the platform. I
don't know why it's in or not in…" ROSE: "What's the president's position?"
SCHUMER: "The president has been for a very, very strong Israel." ROSE: "What's
the president's position on Jerusalem as capital?" SCHUMER: "You'd have to ask…I
don't know if he's ever spoken on that." ROSE: "Oh you know what his position
is. Don't you?" SCHUMER: "No, I don't." ROSE: "You don't know? You've never
asked him to support Jerusalem as the capital of Israel?" SCHUMER: "I've always
assumed that the Democratic position is that and -" ROSE: "How important is this
issue to you?" SCHUMER: "To me personally?" ROSE: "Jerusalem is the capital of
Israel?" SCHUMER: "For me it's been a position I've had for 20 years." (CBS's "
