Private Sector Not “Doing Fine” Under ObamaCare

Speaker Boehner's Press Office |

At a press conference on Friday, President Obama claimed “the private sector is doing fine.” But after 40 months of unemployment above 8 percent, it’s clear “the president’s policies are standing in the way of a stronger economy,” says Rep. Erik Paulsen (R-MN) in the Weekly Republican Address. And “his health care law may well be the worst offender, driving up costs and making it harder for small businesses to hire workers.” Watch Rep. Paulsen here:
MORE FROM THE SPEAKER BLOG:
  • REPEALING OBAMACARE: The House also voted to repeal ObamaCare’s medical device tax, which threatens nearly 50,000 American jobs. This was the 30th vote taken by the House to repeal, defund, or dismantle part of the law. As Speaker Boehner says, anything less than full repeal is unacceptable.
  • SUPREME COURT DECISION: Most Americans want the Supreme Court to overturn all or part of ObamaCare, which is raising costs and making it harder for small businesses to hire. “Unless the Supreme Court throws out the entire law,” says Speaker Boehner, “we need to repeal what’s left of it.”
  • STOPPING TAX HIKES: Speaker Boehner said the House will vote next month to “extend all of the current tax rates for a year.” This will stop a massive tax hike on small businesses and give the House time to craft a simpler, pro-growth tax code for families and job creators. President Obama, meanwhile, is increasingly isolated in his pursuit of small business tax hikes.
  • EXCESSIVE REGULATIONS: Obama administration officials were a no-show at a recent hearing on how their policies threaten jobs and American energy production. Experts testified that the administration’s regulations are creating uncertainty that translates “into higher risks in borrowing, less investment, lost jobs and slower growth throughout the U.S. economy.”
  • WHITE HOUSE TRADES POLICY FOR PR: Speaker Boehner says a new memo from the House Energy & Commerce Committee shows “the White House traded billions of dollars in policy concessions to PhRMA [the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America] for millions of dollars worth of” pro-ObamaCare advertising.
