FROM THE SPEAKER’S BLOG:
- “HEAVY ON JOBS”: The Washington Post says the summer schedule for Republicans is “heavy on jobs.” The House passed an FDA reform bill last week to remove government barriers to economic growth, and will soon vote to stop the coming tax hike on small businesses, address high energy prices, repeal ObamaCare’s medical device tax, and much more.
- MEDICAL DEVICE TAX: The medical device tax the House will vote to repeal embodies President Obama’s hostility toward job creators. The tax would eliminate tens of thousands of American jobs, and force job creators to close factories here and ship jobs overseas.
- SECRET DEALS: An Energy & Commerce Committee memo reveals details on secrets deals cut by the Obama administration to get public support from the pharmaceutical industry for the president’s health care law. Read more. ObamaCare is making it harder for small businesses to hire new workers and, as Speaker Boehner said, anything short of full repeal is unacceptable.
- OPEN HOUSE: Making the legislative process more open and transparent was a key part of the Pledge to America and has been a hallmark of the 112th Congress. And last week, the House took another step toward making legislative information easier to access than ever. Check it out and stay tuned.
- STUDENT LOANS: Half of recent college graduates are out of work or underemployed, yet the White House remains silent on an effort by Republicans to prevent student loan rates from doubling without raising taxes or spending money we don’t have. Senate Democrats still haven’t passed a responsible plan either.
- OBAMA ECONOMY: As this latest jobs report showed, President Obama’s failed policies and hostility toward job creators have created a “new normal” for American families: fewer jobs, more debt, and higher prices. Here’s a look.
- GOP JOBS PLAN: While families continue to struggle in President Obama’s economy, the Democratic-controlled Senate is blocking nearly 30 bipartisan House-passed jobs bills. Click here for more information on the GOP jobs plan and to track House-passed jobs bills
