The Supreme
Court decision of June 28, 2012 did exactly as I’ve tried to warn folks, which
is to view the 2010 Affordable Care Act = ObamaCare as a tax.
Justice John Roberts in writing for the thin majority did not rule on the
validity of the bill but rather sought to uphold the constitutionality of the
ability of Congress to tax despite the protestations of Obama that this bill was
not a tax.
Hidden in the public discourse was the belief that this
case would change the relationship of the citizenry and its government which
would force them to do things they might not want to do. Not
obvious to the public is also the fact that this act profoundly changes the
patient doctor relationship in very negative ways. This bill is
not about affordability and access as it is touted for through the law of
unintended consequences it may do just the opposite.
The
Republicans and conservative constituencies keep misreading and underplaying the
Obama phenomena. Not only is Barack Obama a skilled campaigner, he
is a crafty politician the likes of which this country has not had at the
presidential level since Lyndon Johnson. Social Security, Medicaid
and Medicare are also taxes which citizens don’t like to view as such especially
in view of high unemployment and a populace where 47% now pay no federal taxes
at all. Increasingly the public wants it all without paying for
it. Now it is clear that you can pay now, or you can pay later,
but everyone is about to be taxed to pay in ways that aren’t always
clear.
The poisoned
pill of ObamaCare will send the cost of care into the trillions, will further
disassociate physicians from their patients, will determine what can be charged
further emasculating medicine and making it untenable as a profession from
whence student debts can be recouped, will see more physicians refusing to
accept patients from Medicaid and Medicare as their reimbursements are cut, will
thin the ranks of those entering primary care forcing folks to mid-level
practitioners, will allow the government unmitigated access to your medical
records as well as personal financial accounts to pay your bills, and is proof
positive that twenty-eight years later, George Orwell’s 1984 is at
hand. Sadly, we will also increasingly see the lawyers
representing the last professional class standing without government intrusions
on their right to practice their profession without interference.
The
constitution’s clause guaranteeing citizens the right to life, liberty and the
pursuit of happiness does not mean that it is the government’s responsibility to
give it to us. Beware of the carbon footprint tax, the food tax if
you are overweight, the road tax for mileage, tax for entering transactions of
your money through any financial institutions, and an endless variety of
possibilities coming down the road from an unchecked Congress that now has
validation of its mandate to tax.
For those
complaining that you did not have a vote nor a voice in the ObamaCare
legislation, now is your chance. If you don’t want ObamaCare then
your only option is to not vote for Barack Hussein Obama in the general election
early voting through November 6, 2012 and hope that such will be
repealed!!
