Wil attended Mountain View High School in Mesa where he was successful as a student and as an all-state wide receiver on t
he football team. He attended and played football at Brigham Young University, later transferring to and graduating from
Stanford University with a B.A. in Public Policy. While at Stanford he was a member of the football team under Hall of Fame Coach Bill Walsh.
