Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius recently announced that the government would require employers to cover contraception, sterilization, and abortion-inducing drugs in their health insurance plans at no cost. Please click here to let me know your thoughts on this mandate. As a result of significant public resistance, the Obama Administration revised its mandate late last week. However, instead of instituting a new rule that would do more to protect the First Amendment rights of those who oppose the use of birth control, the Department of Health and Human Services fundamentally rehashed the same policy, which still faces sharp opposition. This policy demonstrates just how intrusive the president’s government takeover of our healthcare system will be to the American people, and I remain concerned about the effect that this mandate will have on religious liberty.
