Rick Santorum defends earmarks! Listen for yourself!

“I’ve had a lot of earmarks. In Fact, I’m very proud of ALL the earmarks I’ve put in bills.” ~Rick Santorum

As a somewhat neighbor of Rick Santorum (Penn Hills, PA) I have followed Mr. Santorum for many years. While he talks about protecting our freedoms he has also billed himself as a "fiscal conservative". That would get my support.

However, his political pedigree is not what he espouses. Fiscal conservatives would not promote "sports welfare" as was the case in 1997. At that time, Santorum was front in center in promoting the Regional Renaissance Initiative, otherwise known as a stadium tax. A ballot referendum asking voters from 11 southwestern counties to raise their sales tax for seven years to fund sports palaces for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Stealers.

Santorum will never be forgotten for his political stance and clearly illustrates Santorum is not what he bills himself, a "fiscal conservative".

I will keep my eyes and ears open for a candidate that is truly a "fiscal conservative". I thought we had that in Tom Corbett. Unfortunately, it is politics as usual and the DCED and RCAP grants as well as asking government workers to take cuts while our Legislature continues to take in more pay, perks and pensions is not what I had in mind.
