Interactive map shows Chapter 7, Chapter 13 filings by state, jurisdiction

Today, a look at bankruptcy rates. Texas has one of the lowest bankruptcy rates in America, ranking 46th in the U.S. (with 1 being the worst, 50 being the best):

The decline in bankruptcy filings is picking up steam, falling 11 percent for the first nine months of the year, compared to the same period in 2010.
Filings reached more than 1.06 million through September 2011 in the 50 states and District of Columbia, and every state except Utah recorded filing declines, federal bankruptcy court statistics compiled by Epiq Systems show.
The chart below summarizes Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcies by state and by jurisdiction, through the third quarter of 2011.

ALSO RELATED: New data from the Texas Workforce Commission (.pdf warning). Texas' unemployment rate fell this month after adding 2,500 net jobs in October 2011 (adding 13,500 private sector jobs and shedding 11,000 government jobs). Texas has shed 54,600 government jobs since October 2010, while adding 286,200 private sector jobs. The net result of that, obviously, is 231,600 total net new jobs over the past year.
