recall election. See video below..Senator Russell Pearce defeated.. Jerry Lewis declared winner.

Pearce shortly after 9 p.m. said at a news conference outside a campaign supporter's home that "numbers aren't going my way and I am OK with that."
"If being recalled means keeping your promises, then so be it," the Republican lawmaker said as he stood surrounded by supporters and friends.Lewis made an appearance with his supporters in Mesa at about the same time Pearce met with reporters.

"We pulled off a historic upset," Lewis said just after the last precinct totals were reported about 9 p.m. "We ran a clean and civil campaign."

The Maricopa County Elections Department reported 7,555 votes for Lewis and 6,427 for Pearce.
However, elections officials said there were thousands of early and provisional ballots yet to be counted. They will start counting those ballots at 10 a.m. Wednesday.

If the percentages hold, Pearce would become the first sitting Senate president in the nation and the first Arizona legislator ever to lose a recall election. He would be required to step down immediately once the results become official.

The veteran Pearce, sounding very much like he had accepted his defeat, said he was grateful for his supporters and proud of what he had accomplished as a lawmaker, specifically mentioning legislation protecting gun-owners' rights. He repeatedly thanked "patriots" who had supported him, and said he was willing to be unseated if that was the price of keeping his promises.

More than 100 upbeat Lewis backers, meanwhile, crowded into the backyard of Lewis supporter Tom Wright and let out a loud cheer when the first count of absentee ballots showed Lewis ahead
