CASA GRANDE - 17 suspected drug smugglers were arrested Thursday after ICE served 12 search warrants, assisted by the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office.
In addition to the arrests, agents and officers representing more than a dozen different law enforcement agencies seized more than 935 pounds of marijuana, 12 weapons, 1,000 rounds of ammunition and $35,000.
The operation was the result of a year-long investigation.
Thursday’s enforcement operation was focused on dismantling the Casa Grande drug smuggling organization, which was centered in Casa Grande and specialized in moving smuggled narcotics from the Mexican border through the West Desert region of Arizona and into Phoenix.
Six search warrants were served in Casa Grande; two in Stanfield, Ariz.; and one each in Phoenix; Tucson; Marana, Ariz.; and on the Gila River Nation. SkyFOX was above a warrant being served in the area of 107th Avenue and Indian School Road -- in that home, 800 pounds of marijuana were seized.
Neighbors didn't suspect a thing.
