Governor Perry is being hammered by candidates whose states aren't faced with illegal entry into the US on a daily basis. He has repeatedly stated that his state has spent $400 million dollars of Texans taxpayer dollars to secure the border and that a fence isn't practical, it will take people power and technology.
Hundreds of miles of U.S.-Mexico border fencing isn't even high enough to stop a person on foot.
Of the 646 miles of barriers currently constructed along the 2,000-mile southern border of the United States, 300 miles are vehicle barriers, according to the Department of Homeland Security. That means they're meant to keep out cars and trucks, but aren't high enough to keep out people crossing the border illegally on foot. You can see from the photographs below that his statement is correct and it will take more than rhetoric from a bunch flame throwers to change his opinion.
Perry, who has been governor for nearly 11 years, defends his record on immigration and says he has the most expertise in border enforcement than any candidate in the race.
Since 2005, Perry has directed more than $400 million into a multi-agency law enforcement operation along the border. He has also signed legislation prohibiting illegal immigrants from receiving drivers' licenses, backed a new voter identification law and pushed an unsuccessful sanctuary city bill that would have allowed local law enforcement officers to ask about immigration status.
"The heart of the problem is Washington's failure to secure the border, and as President, Rick Perry will make sure that the federal government fulfills its constitutional duty to secure our sovereign border," the Perry campaign said in a release, entitled "Setting the Record Straight" on Perry's border security and in-state tuition record. The release said Perry "opposes amnesty" and believes the federal government must "first security the border before we can have any rational discussion about immigration reform. Star Telegram

A FENCE ISN'T STOPPING THIS GROUP FROM ENTERING THE United States. Until the Federal Government enforces the number one job of protecting America, this will continue.
