America’s economy is
facing daunting financial challenges. For over a decade, Washington politicians
have failed to control spending, turning a budget surplus of over $230 Billion
into a $1.6 Trillion deficit. Instead of reducing government spending and decreasing
the size of government, Washington chose to bail out Wall Street and pay for
more federal bureaucracy, leaving taxpayers to foot the bill. Now, we face a
tidal wave of debt that has hindered opportunities for prosperity for our next
generations.
Matt Salmon has a long record of holding politicians accountable for their spending, and serving as a watchdog for American taxpayers. As a member of the Congress that balanced the first federal budget in over a generation, Salmon understands first-hand that we must cut wasteful spending immediately, reform our insolvent entitlement programs, and reduce the size of our over-bloated federal government. Salmon believes that our economic troubles require tough fiscal decisions by lawmakers, not more of the same policies that leave our problems for our children’s children to resolve. growth and prosperity. The result has been a national debt above $14 Trillion
and an unemployment rate that remains over 9%. Small businesses and
middle-class families have been hit the worst, with no incentive to hire more
workers and no ability to save for a child’s college education. Higher taxes
and excessive regulations instituted by our government has continued to push
jobs out of America and prevented businesses from growing.
Matt Salmon believes that America’s economy thrives when government fosters economic conditions that promote entrepreneurship and free enterprise. Salmon has the experience in Congress of supporting measures that cut job-killing taxes and rein in red-tape regulations on small businesses. As a small business owner himself, Salmon understands the risks that American citizens assume when creating businesses and believes that government should be a partner, not an obstacle, for business owners and job creators. SECURING OUR BORDERS

One of the most
important duties of our federal government is to protect and secure our
national borders. Yet, as illegal immigration continues to intensify,
Washington politicians have refused to adequately address this issue, leaving
Arizona and other border states to deal with this serious problem. Even worse,
our federal government has blocked efforts by states like Arizona to prevent
illegal immigration and punish those who break our immigration laws.
Matt Salmon will lead the fight in Congress to address and solve the issue of illegal immigration. Salmon believes the federal government is failing to do the job of protecting our national borders and will advocate permitting the use of National Guard troops to secure our borders if necessary. Salmon will also partner with leaders from Arizona and other border states in fighting back against the federal government and their attempts to stop states from taking action to prevent illegal immigration.
