U.S. .- For years, between sectors and extremist xenophobic Americans
has been carrying out a call to end illegal immigration that the
federal government has failed to contain. They formed several groups
of 'vigilantes', guarding the border and reported to authorities that
they observed smuggling, as in the case of the Minutemen.
However in recent months reported that some groups have apparently
come to apply their own laws at gunpoint, 'hunting' immigrants while
lurking in the desert dressed in camouflage.According to reports, just 10 days ago a group of five illegal immigrants was ambushed by men carrying automatic rifles hidden, that they walked through the desert of Arizona. That same day, a few miles
north, two suspected drug traffickers were killed in similar situations.
"This is completely unacceptable ... racism was carried to an extreme point," said Fernando Garcia, director of the Border Network for Human Rights. "The same people who persecute African Americans in the '50s, are now targeting immigrants and attack."There is now a call from racist groups, the Nazi kind, to carry out armed actions and to intercept immigrants, he added. According to media reports, only in Santa Cruz County, Arizona, during the past 18 months have been at least 50 attacks against immigrants, have in common to groups of armed and camouflaged who apparently hope to immigrants to ambush. In these attacks some 12 immigrants were injured and at least three died. These attacks against immigrants, Garcia said, are the result of extreme and polarized discussion about the current situation in Arizona, thanks to Republican political factions that make immigrants the "scapegoats" of the country, thus generating a irrational rejection to them. "This hate and has nothing to do with immigration but racism, extreme racism," he said."Certain groups of Republicans are generating extremism that we, as a political tool to win votes," said the activist. He added that "it has distorted reality, myths have been created to criminalize the immigrant and see it as what is not." Garcia explained that the primary responsibility for this situation lies primarily with the federal government, when not working to generate a useful immigration reform. Steps are needed to fix the system input, legalize people already residing in the country, and legalizing the flow of immigrants, it emerged. For his part, said local and state governments are required to contain these groups of armed racist, makers of immigration laws into their own hands without respecting human life.Garcia said that such attacks do not hinder the immigration debate, but the poison to the extent that there is no viable solution. And that is, the man said, "How do you argue with racism, xenophobia and prejudice?".The latest incidents On 11 June, two Mexicans, who had presumed drug loads on their backs, were shot dead in an area of Pinal County, about 130 kilometers from the border with Mexico.Further south, the same day, a group of five illegal immigrants were ambushed by two men wearing camouflage clothing near the community of Rio Rico, between Nogales and Tucson. One of the undocumented, identified as Manuel Esquer Gomez, 45, was shot in the arm while running to escape the fire along with the rest of his teammates. The immigrants were able to help. In reporting the incident to the authorities, immigrants reported seeing two bodies as they ran for safety. Agents from the Sheriff's Office went to the scene and found
the body of a person of Mexican nationality and whose cause of death
has not yet been clarified. ( been there a long time ) The sheriff of the county of Santa Cruz, Antonio Estrada, said investigators still have no clues to the attackers. "It's disturbing to hear of people with high powered rifles and camouflage clothing.
Wake up some red flags, "said the sheriff. Speaking this week at the television station KVOA in Tucson, Estrada said he did not want to speculate, but pointed out that in the investigations "will not dismiss any possibility, including that the
attackers are U.S. citizens."There may be individuals who might be hunting illegally. That is indeed a great concern for us, "he warned. The attacks differ from other incidents of violence at the border because the victims were not demand anything and are not stolen. Those affected are attacked by surprise when they walk and those who do not shoot your face and try to hide. Last November, a hunter found the body of an illegal immigrant who was shot to death in Santa Cruz County, a week after that in the same area other migrant asked for help in a house and reported having been injured by a sniper. The incidents are similar to several recorded during the past 18 months, in which victims are killed or injured in shoulders, arms or legs.
